SALEM: Gertrude E. (Larrabee) Basile, 98, died Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at Masconomet Healthcare, Topsfield, MA. She was the wife of the late Domenico J. Basile, who died in April of 1985. They were lifelong residents of Salem.
Gertrude was born in Salem on December 21, 1910. She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Margaret (Brady) Larrabee.
Gertrude was a senior tour guide at the The House of the Seven Gables in Salem for twenty-five years before retiring in 1986. Gert also worked at Parker Brothers Games in Salem for several years. Gert enjoyed knitting, dancing and singing. Her three daughters, grand children, and great-grandchildren were very special to her
She is survived by three daughters, Donna M. Sachs of Salem and her companion, William Smith of Wakefield, June E. and her husband, Harry Pasquier of Miami, FL and Diane L. Harvey of Beverly, her sister, Catherine Lombard of Gloucester, four grandchildren, Noah D. Sachs of Boston, Jocelyn Sachs-Dellea and her husband, Peter Dellea of Lebanon, Maine, Justin Ober and Jordan Harvey both of Beverly, three great-grandchildren, Fiona Dellea, Juleah Ober and Madelyn Beauchense and several nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by two sisters, Helen Bethune and Ruth Larrabee and six brothers, Frederick, William, John, George, Arthur and Robert Larrabee.
Her funeral services will be held on Friday in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, North St., Salem at 10:30 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Thursday at the Grondin Funeral Home, 376 Cabot Street, Beverly from 5 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to The House of the Seven Gables Settlement Association, 115 Derby St., Salem, MA 01970.
