Obituary

Fall River - Roland G. Goyette, Sr., known by many as “The Governor”, 84, of Westport died July 28, 2009 at Charlton Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of Yvonne R. (St. Pierre) Goyette, they were married for 49 years.

Mr. Goyette was born in Westport, son of the late George B. and Irene (Beal) Goyette, and was a lifelong resident of the town. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II serving in the 3rd Army under General Patton. He served in the battles of Normandy (D-Day), Northern France, the Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe, receiving a Silver Star for each battle. He was a survivor of Omaha Beach. He was also the recipient of 2 Purple Hearts and the Bronze Star. He was employed as a truck driver by Old Colony Transportation and G. E. Wilson, both of E. Providence, RI until his retirement. He was a member of Teamsters Local 251, E. Providence. He loved his animals, enjoyed fishing and traveling around town with his wife.

In addition to his widow, he is survived by 3 daughters: Linda Anctil of Westport, Diane Pelland of Swansea, Jeanne Goyette of Westport; 2 sons: Roland G. Goyette, Jr. of Dartmouth and Wayne Goyette of Westport; a sister: Claire Duquette of Westport; 3 brothers: Armand G. Goyette of Westport, Albert G. Goyette of Tiverton, RI and Oscar H. Goyette of Glastonberry, CT; 12 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many nieces & nephews.

He was brother of the late Florence Johnson and Arthur H. Goyette.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, July 30, 2009, 5:00-8:00 P.M.

Funeral services and interment will be private.
