Salem: Edgar J. Boucher, age 86, died unexpectedly, Monday, July 27, 2009 at the NSMC / Salem Hospital. He was the husband of Emily L. (Ferullo) Boucher with whom he shared 59 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of the late Octave and Marie Louise (Paquet) Boucher. Edgar began working for the United Shoe Machinery Corp. in Beverly prior to World War II. In 1942 he joined the Army and served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign for which he was decorated several times. Following his tour of duty, in 1946 he returned to Salem and continued working for the United Shoe as a machinist. He retired in 1985 with 43 years with the company.
Married to Emily in 1950 the couple resided in Winthrop for a number of years, and returned to live in Salem in 1963. Edgar was a former member of the Salem Loyal Order of Moose and the former Klondike Club of Salem. He was currently a member of St. James Parish. He enjoyed playing cards and working in his garden.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Thomas J. Boucher and his wife Mary I. of Byfield, 3 grandchildren, Christine M., Thomas J., II, & Michael J. Boucher all of Byfield, a brother, Richard Boucher and his wife Janice of Salem, 2 sisters, Madeline Michaud and Noella LaChance both of Salem. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 5 brothers, Jean Paul, George, Martial, Jean M. & Raymond J. Boucher and a sister, Irene Provost.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem on Friday, July 31, 2009 at 9 a.m. to be followed by his funeral mass in St. James Church, Federal St., Salem at 10 a.m. Visiting hours: Thursday 4 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park, Peabody.
