Edna R. (Doherty) Boyle, a 60 year resident of Charlestown, died on Friday, July 24, 2009, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford after a lenghty illness. She was 80 years old.
Edna was born in Malden, and raised in Charlestown where she attended Boston Public Schools, graduating from Charlestown High in 1947. While living in Charlestown, Edna established a youth program know as "Mrs. Bee's Garden". She provided activities for children by showing them the benefits of raising a large garden each year near her home on Corey Street in Charlestown while raising 9 children of her own.
Edna is the beloved wife of the late William F. Boyle. She is the devoted mother of Deborah Darlas of Ohio, Lynn Zofchak and her husband John of Hingham, Neal P. Boyle II and his wife Leonila of Charlestown, William Boyle of Tennessee, Kathleen Mortimer and her late husband Daniel of Tewksbury, Therese Tassinari and her husband Mark of East Boston, Sean Boyle of Charlestown, Cynthia Boyle of Charlestown and Mary Ellen Beauregard and her husband Ray of New Hampshire. She is the loving grandmother of 27 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. She is the beloved sister of Winifred Belanger of Florida, Daniel Lane of Charlestown, Bernard Lane of Stoneham and the late Francis Doherty.
Edna's Funeral will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at 9 a.m. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill Street, Charlestown, followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren Street, Charlestown, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are on Monday, July 27, 2009, from 4 to 8 p.m. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
