PAXTON: John C. Hyland, 104, of Pleasant Street passed away Friday, July 24 in his home.
His wife of 73 years, Nellie M. (Latvis) Hyland passed away in January. He leaves two sons John A. Hyland and his wife Joan of Paxton and George C. Hyland and his wife Elizabeth of Holden; a daughter Eilleen N. Borezo of Paxton; eight grand children Katherine Pitman, Candace Dufoe, Sonya Alves, George Hyland, Sarah Flynn, John H. Hyland, Robin Hyland & Peter Hyland; twelve great grand children Sarah, Sai, Ashlee, Jamie, Vanessa, Nicolas, Jacob, Cody, John W., Molly, Jessie & Anelia. He is pre-deceased by two brothers William & Charlie and four sisters Helen, Annie, Maggie & Mary.
Mr. Hyland was born in Weymouth, son of George and Margaret Zablo. He operated Hyland Farm in Leicester with his brother for 32 years before moving to Paxton and starting his own farm. After retiring from farming he became a mechanic repairing trucks for Day Brothers in Worcester, he also worked for Prentice Construction as a truck driver and then worked for 10 years with the Paxton Highway Department before retiring. He was a member of St. Columba Church, Paxton Senior Citizen Club and the Lithuanian Naturalization Club. He was a former member of the Rutland Sportsman's Club. He was an honorary member of the Paxton Lions Club. He was the Paxton Silver Cane holder. He was a self taught musician and played the accordion all of his life. He enjoyed working with wood, gardening, hunting, the Red Sox and spending time with his family.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 27 at 11:00 AM in MORIN-MORRISON FUNERAL HOME, 1131 Main Street, Leicester. Burial will be in Mooreland Cemetery, Paxton. A calling hour will precede the service from 10:00-11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Paxton Council of Aging, 17 West Street, Paxton, MA 01612.
