Ralph L. Scudere, 78

Dateline: Norton, MA

Ralph L. Scudere, 78, of Norton passed away unexpectedly on Saturday July 25, 2009 at the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro. He was the beloved husband of Janette E. (Park) Scudere to whom he was wed on May 29, 1954.
Born in Fairmont, West Virginia on September 25, 1930 he was a son of the late Louis and Catherine (Seccurro) Scudere.
Ralph grew up in West Virginia, was educated in Shinnston public schools and was a 1949 graduate of Shinnston High School. While in high school he was a stand out athlete and was an all state starting guard on the football team. His family later moved to Illinois and on December 11, 1951 he entered the United States Marine Corps and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably released from active duty on February 15, 1952 with the rank of private first class. He continued to serve in the Military Police of the Marine Corps for 18 months and was stationed in Hawaii.
A resident of Norton for the past 34 years, Mr. Scudere was a retired Mold Maker having worked for Owens-Illinois for 30 prior to retirement. He started with the company in Illinois and later worked at the company’s former Mansfield plant and retired from the company’s New York plant.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton, Ralph’s family was the essence and importance of his life. He loved to hunt, golf, watch football on television and also enjoyed reading and solving crossword puzzles.
In addition to his beloved wife of over 55 years he is survived by his devoted children Louis A. Scudere and his wife Kay of Chicago, Illinois, Jeffry P. Scudere and his wife Lisa of Norton, Marilyn E. Silva and her husband Barry of Attleboro, Ruth-Ann Scudere-Chapman and her husband Jeff of Martha’s Vineyard and Maria B. Scudere and her husband Eric Weiss of Belchertown. He was the brother of Delores Vicari of California and the late Barbara Warwick and is also survived by his cherished grandchildren William, Stephen, Justin, Catherine, Anthony, Hannah, Joanna, Nicholas, Noah, Samuel, Jonah and the late Andrew Silva. Ralph is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday July 30th at 9:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at 10:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 133 South Worcester St. Norton. Burial with military honors will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday July 29th from 5-8 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home
In lieu of flowers, Ralph’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105-1942
