Obituary

Heron Whyley O’llivan Peterkin, 47

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Heron (“Pat”) Peterkin, 47, of Mansfield, MA formerly of Montreal, QC passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at home on Saturday July 25, 2009. He was the beloved husband of Bonnie-Lynn White to whom he was married for 22 years.

Born in Granville, Trelawny, Jamaica on May 8, 1962, he was the dear son of Lindon (Pete) Peterkin and the late Olga May Gordon of Montreal. At the tender age of 7, Heron’s family moved from Jamaica to Montreal to pursue higher education in Canada. Heron would follow in his parent’s footsteps, excelling both in school and in the workplace and graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from McGill University.

Over a 25-year period, Heron climbed the corporate ladder as an engineer, where his diligence and skill eventually propelled him to the post of Operations Vice President at one of the largest insurance companies in the world.

While Heron was a very hard and focused worker, he had opportunities to enjoy leisure time as well. An avid golfer, it would not be uncommon to see him on a putting green enjoying the fresh air. He participated on company bowling leagues and church group softball teams and more recently had even taken up learning to play the drums. With his dry sense of humor and quick wit, Heron could always contribute a little levity to any situation, a gift that made him a pleasure to be around.

A devout Christian and servant of God, Heron was a resident of Mansfield, MA and for the past 10 years attended Faith Alliance Church in Attleboro, MA and the Church of Emmanuel in Foxboro, MA. While living in Montreal, Heron was a faithful member of the Onward Gospel Church and was very involved as a board member there.

In addition to his loving wife Bonnie and father Lindon, Heron is survived by his beloved children Nicole E. Peterkin- 21, Melissa A. Peterkin- 19, Matthew P. Peterkin - 17 and Gregory M. Peterkin - 14, all of Mansfield, Massachusetts. He was the cherished eldest brother of G. Andrew Peterkin of Quebec, Judith Alfaro of Georgia and Christine Fisher and Jessica Peterkin both of Ontario. He is also survived by five adoring nephews and his in-laws Simon and Helene White of Montreal.

Heron’s beloved family was the essence of his life and he was the rock in theirs. His devotion to them and ability to put them first in everything he did is indescribable. Respected by many and loved by all, he will be sadly missed by everyone who knew him. We celebrate him and the precious time we had together.
