GLOUCESTER: Leo J. Stuart, 65, of Oak Street, died unexpectedly Wednesday, July 22, 2009 at his home. He was the husband of Jerrilyn L. (Canillas) Stuart.
Born in Gloucester on October 19, 1943, he was the son of the late Lawrence J. and Betty (Rogers) Stuart. He was a lifelong resident of Gloucester.
Leo was employed as a commercial clammer for many years. He had also once owned and operated Stuart’s Auto Repair on Flannagan Square. Leo could fix anything, which gave him the nickname “handyman”. He enjoyed helping others with everything from auto repair, carpentry to model ship building. He also enjoyed spending time with his dog “Tedwood” and visits from his family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Jodie Stuart, Nikki and her husband, Kent Fleenor and Taney and her husband, Douglas MacLeod, Jr. all of Gloucester, four sons, Lonnie and his wife, Anne Stuart of Lehigh Acres, FL, Randy Stuart, Jamie Stuart and Toby Stuart all of Gloucester, a sister, Mary Furr of South Hill, VA, twelve grandchildren, Josh, Leneai, Aimee, Emily and Toby Stuart, Jr., Keri, Kristy and Taylor Glidden, Kaylee O’Neil, Shara Curtis and Stuart and Douglas MacLeod, III and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by a brother Lawrence “Roger” Stuart.
A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday in the Orthodox Congregational Church, 1120 Washington St., Lanesville at 2 P.M. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the charity of one’s choice.
