Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Paul M. Herrick, 91, died Friday evening, July 24, 2009 at his residence following a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Bessie (Thanos) Herrick, who died this past January. They had shared sixty-three years of marriage.
Born in Gloucester on March 26, 1918, he was the son of the late Augustine and Gertrude (Dunbar) Herrick. Paul was a lifelong resident of Gloucester and had attended Gloucester public schools.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in Central Europe, Northern France and Rhineland, having been honorably discharged in November of 1945. He was a member of the Capt. Lester S. Wass Post #3, American Legion.
Paul was employed for many years at the former Consolidated Lobster Company in Bayview. He had also worked at Connolly and Daggett in Lynn and Gorton’s of Gloucester for several years before his retirement. He was an avid amateur artist who enjoyed oil painting.
He is survived by two daughters and a son-in-law, Joanne C. Witham, Elizabeth J. and David A. Hunter, two grandsons, Christopher P. and Nathaniel D. Hunter, a sister-in-law, Jennie Dumont all of Gloucester and several nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his son-in-law, Jay Witham, three sisters, Betty Baldwin, Stella Flannagan and Madeline Baker and three brothers, Donald, Roswell and Randall Herrick.
His funeral service will be held on Tuesday morning in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. Interment with military honors will be held in the Seaside Cemetery, Lanesville.
