Roger R. Gilbert, 69, of Chester, NH passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family. Roger was born in Manchester, NH on June 26, 1940 a son of the late Antonio and Marie Laure (Godbout) Gilbert. He retired from UNH Philbrook dining and upon retirement assisted his wife with daily operations of Marelli’s Fruit Store. For the past 17 years Roger was camp director and was in charge of dining operation of Lions Camp Pride as well owned and operated several restaurants since the age of 16. Roger enjoyed hunting, fishing, classic cars and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving family members include, his wife Louise Roy Gilbert of 22 years of Chester, one son, Richard R. Gilbert of Allenstown, NH, two daughters, Pamela Rodgers Gilbert of Pittsfield, NH, Angela Feirick of Manchester, NH, two sisters, Aline Larivierre of Bonita Springs, Fl and Lillian Daneau of Sun City, FL. Also, two brothers, Gerry Gilbert of Manchester and Lucien Gilbert of Keene and eleven grandchildren, Chrissy, Madeline, Ryan, John John, Jamie, Jessica, Stephen, Tyson, Randy, Sarah and Alyssa and several great grandchildren.
Mr. Gilbert was predeceased by his parents, his former wife of 24 years Madeline Doris Cloutier, one daughter, Sandra Vadeboncouer and one brother, Joe Gilbert.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2009 from 10 am to 12pm at Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch street, Derry, NH. A graveside service will follow at 12:30 pm at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Manchester, NH. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
