DRACUT - Marilyn J. (Brown) Gotzamanis, 48, of Dracut, died, surrounded by her loving family, early Wednesday morning July 22, 2009 in Lowell General Hospital following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Waltham on November 17, 1960, she was a daughter of David Brown Sr and Joan L. (McCammon) Brown of Dracut. She received her education in the Dracut school system and was a graduate of Dracut High School class of 1978.
In her early years Mrs. Gotzamanis owned and operated several pizza restaurants; the former Athens Pizza in Tyngsboro, the former Jay's House of Pizza in Franklin, NH, the former Pizza Plus in Bedford and Canal Street Pizza in Nashua, NH. Most recently she was employed by MetLife Group of Tewksbury in their Customer Service Department.
She attended the Christ Church United in Dracut. She was also a very active participant in the Lowell General Hospital Team Walk for Cancer Care. For the past three years a team, Mal's Pals, was named in her honor and will continue to walk in her memory.
In her free time she enjoyed being at her home gardening, doing arts and crafts and spending time in the company for her family and her cherished pet German shepherds Kasey and Tyra.
In addition to her parents, Marilyn is survived by her beloved sons James R. Gotzamanis and Nicholas D. Gotzamanis both of Dracut and with whom she resided; three sisters Cheryl Floyd of Hudson, NH, Valerie Ayer of Tewksbury; Judith Campbell and her husband Kenneth also of Hudson, NH; two brothers David Brown Jr and his wife Christine of Pelham, NH, Glenn Brown and his wife Marilou of Appleton, WI; her maternal grandmother Bernice McCammon of Lowell; an aunt Majorie McCammon of Wayland; seven nieces and nephews Jesse Floyd, Becki Dudley, Robert Ayer III, Hillary Ayer, Colby Campbell, Chelsey Brown, Laney Brown, three grand nieces and grand nephews Danielle Dudley, Zachary Dudley and Jesse Floyd Jr.; and many cousins. She was predeceased by her grandfather Robert McCammon Sr., her Uncle Robert McCammon Jr, and her cousin Robert McCammon III.
Friends may call at DRACUT FUNERAL HOME 2159 Lakeview Avenue, DRACUT, on Sunday from 2 until 6 PM. Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 11 AM in Christ Church United of Dracut.
