Obituary

DUDLEY - Clarence L. “Bud” Hamm, 87, formerly of Dudley, died Tuesday, July 21, in Bedford Veterans Administration Hospital, Bedford, after an illness.

He is survived by his daughter, Joan E. Yanakopoulos and her husband Louis of Malden; a granddaughter, Danielle Tardugno of Haverhill; a great granddaughter, Danica Stachulski; nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brothers Reginald and Arnold Hamm.

He was born in Waltham, a son of Paul B. and Estelle E. (Faulkner) Hamm. He lived in Millbury in the 1960's before moving to Dudley. He lived in Webster for 3 years before moving to Bedford.

He was an Army Veteran of World War II, serving in the 527th Bomb Squadron as a staff sergeant. He flew as a member of the combat crew on a B-17 on 9 missions over France and Germany, until being shot down on January 30, 1944, becoming a prisoner of war. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the EAME Service Medal with one bronze star.

Mr. Hamm worked as a machinist at Wyman-Gordon Company in Grafton for many years before retiring in 1987.

He was a member of the Church of the Reconciliation in Webster. He was an active member of the Central Mass. Chapter of American Ex-Prisoners of War, a member of the Disabled American Veterans Mass. Chapter #4 and of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7556 of Rochdale.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 8, in the Church of the Reconciliation, 5 North Main Street, Webster. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will perform the military honors at the cemetery. Donations in his name may be made to either the Edith Nourse VA Hospital, Attn.: Voluntary Service, 200 Springs Road, Bedford, MA 01730, or to the Disabled American Veterans, Attn.: Gift Processing, PO Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301. Arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster.
