DERRY, NH - Charlene A. "Pat" (Hazel) Patel, R.N., age 70, died Wednesday morning, July 22, at the Pleasant Valley Nursing Home in Derry following a lengthy illness. She was the beloved wife of Kanu I. Patel, with whom she had celebrated a 47th wedding anniversary this past March 23rd.
She was born in Tewksbury, March 1, 1939, one of seven children of the late Charles "Coach" and Helen (Reagan) Hazel, and was raised in Tewksbury. She lived in Ohio and California before returning Derry, NH in 1986. She graduated from Tewksbury Memorial High School, and received her R.N. from the Lowell General School of Nursing. She went on to earn a Baccalaureate in Nursing from the University of Cincinnati, and a Masters Degree from Riviera College in Nashua, NH. She was employed by Parkland Medical Center in Derry, NH, and earlier, Brookside Hospital in Nashua, NH.
She was described as collector of Elephant figurines and had amassed a huge collection of elephant memorabilia and figurines.
Besides he husband, she is survived by a daughter, Shannon Patel-Bourassa of Salem, NH; a son and daughter-in-law, Sean Patel and his wife Lannie (Bugarin)of Tucson, AZ; two grandsons, Seattle and Noah Bourassa; six brothers and sisters and their spouses, Donna and Richard Damboskey of Derry, NH, Charles D. "Buckey" and Cindy Hazel of NE, George W. and Carol Hazel of Tewksbury, John M. and Lynn Hazel of FL, Debra and Wayne Beaulieu of CO, and Raymond F. Hazel of VA; and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside memorial service was held Monday, July 27, in the Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the Joslin Diabetes Center, Development office, 1 Joslin Pl. Boston, MA 02215, will be appreciated.
