Obituary

Warren J. Smith - Of Port St. Lucie, FL. Formerly of Dedham. July 20. Beloved husband of Jean A. (Conlon). Father of Deborah J. Chevie and her husband Wayne of Norfolk, Valerie A. Smith of Watertown. Grandfather of Christina Alden Chevie and William Warren Chevie of Norfolk.

Mr. Smith served as a Sergeant in the Army in both WW II and the Korea War. He received his bachelor’s degree from University of Connecticut and his MBA from Northeastern University. Mr. Smith had a thirst for knowledge and spent his entire career spanning 35 years in higher education at the University of New Haven. During his time there, Professor Smith held a variety of positions at UNH including Dean of both the Business and Hotel Restaurant Schools. For a good portion of his career he was an instructor of Quantitative Analysis. After he stepped down as Dean of the Business School at UNH an award was named in his honor-the Warren Smith Award for Outstanding Achievement in Quantitative Analysis. In addition to developing the School of Business, Mr. Smith was instrumental in establishing a strong international and culturally diverse student body as well as establishing the Communications and Forensics Science Schools (now known as the Henry Lee College) at UNH. As a consultant for the Small Business Administration in CT, Mr. Smith assisted numerous small business owners in the area of finance and strategic planning. An avid writer, Mr. Smith continued to publish his writing even after retirement in regional newspapers throughout Florida. Dad began running at age 54, ran his first marathon at age 55 and completed his 6th and final marathon, the Boston marathon in four hours at age 64 in 1989.

Visiting hours at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., DEDHAM, Thursday 5-8 PM. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Funeral Service in the Allin Congregational Church, 683 High St., Dedham, Friday, at 11 AM. Interment Brookdale Cemetery, Dedham. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Warren’s name to the Treasure Coast Hospice, 5090 Dunn Rd, Fort Pierce, FL.
