Obituary

GLOUCESTER: Daniel J. McMullen, 65, of Essex Avenue died Sunday, July 19, 2009 at his residence.
Born in Boston on October 14, 1943, he was the son of the late Frank P. and Margaret (LeBlanc) McMullen. He had been a resident of Gloucester since the age of fourteen and was a graduate of the Gloucester High School.
A U.S. Navy veteran, he served as fireman aboard the aircraft carrier, U.S.S. Wasp. He was honorably discharged in December of 1968.
One of his passions was auto-body restoration and he worked his craft for many years in the Cape Ann area. He then was employed for fifteen years as a mechanical assembler and painter for Varian, having retired last year.
Dan was very involved with the Cape Ann Sportman’s Club and was a past president. He was also an avid reader and civil war history buff. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Daniel and Paula (Jedraszek) McMullen, a stepson, Rick, husband of Michelle (Beaulieu) Bacon, five grandchildren, Owen, Kevin and Lindsay McMullen, Kyle and Rebecca Bacon, his former spouses, Nancie (Mansfield) Page and Sandra (Calder) Oliver and several nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends. He was also predeceased by his brother, Frances McMullen.
His funeral service will be held on Thursday morning in the Pike-Grondin Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester at 11 a.m. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday from 5 – 8 p.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in his memory to the American Lung Assoc., 460 Totten Pond Rd., Suite 400, Waltham, MA 02451-1991.
