Jesup- Carl Len Hillyard, age 51, died Friday July 17, 2009 in the Wayne Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness. He was a native and lifelong resident of Wayne County. He had been employed with the Georgia Department of Transportation for over 30 years and was serving as district 5 Fatality Investigator at the time of his death. He was a Volunteer Firefighter with the Jesup Fire Dept. and was currently the Safety Officer and had received numerous awards, including Volunteer of the Year for 2005. He was a Funeral Assistant with Howard-Jones-Nobles Funeral Home, a member of the State Firefighters Association and Unity Church of God in Jesup.
He is survived by his wife, June Edge Hillyard; two sons, Bryan Hillyard and Timothy (fiancé Magan) Hillyard; his mother, Kathleen Holland; a brother, Kenneth Holland, all of Jesup; his step-sister, Cheryl Newton and step-brother, Darrell Hillyard, both of Jacksonville, Florida; his father-and mother-in-law, Eddie and Velma Edge of Jesup; 2 grandchildren, Casey and Cadence Hillyard, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 20, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. at the Unity Church of God with Rev. George Moxley and Rev. Jack Lee officiating.
Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Cemetery with full Firefighter honors.
Active Pallbearers will be the Jesup Fire Department Honor Guard.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Fire and Public Safety personnel in attendance and the Traffic Operations staff of District 5 D.O.T.

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 P.M. at the funeral home.
