Kathleen M. (Mooney) Benes, 79, of New Bedford died Thursday January 10, 2002 at home after a long illness.
She was the wife of Knut H. "Les" Benes, and daughter of the late James B. and Alice M. (Sullivan) Mooney.
Mrs. Benes was born in New Bedford and had lived in New Bedford for all of her life. She was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Kinyon's Commercial School.
She was a communicant of Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
Mrs. Benes was formerly employed as an Executive Secretary at Continental Screw Company until her retirement.
She was an avid crafter, having booths at various craft fairs, mostly featuring dressing dolls and making clothes for American Girl dolls.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Kevin J. Benes and his wife Donna, of New Bedford; a daughter, Kristine A. Vaz and her husband Daniel, of Townsend; a sister, Marion A. Cheney and her husband Howard, of Worcester; 4 grandchildren; Tara Vaz, Nicole Vaz, Pamela Benes and Erica Benes; a nephew and 2 nieces.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordSaturday January 12, 2002 at 10 AM.Funeral Mass at Holy Name of the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church at 11 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be Friday January 11, 2002 from 2-4 and 7-9. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Fairhaven.
