John H. Gross, 84, a longtime resident of Old Bethpage, NY and a seven year resident of Londonderry, died Friday at the Elliot Hospital in Manchester. John was born June 18, 1925 in Bronx, NY to the late John and Alice (Krieg) Gross and was a retiree from Grumman Aerospace in Bethpage, NY after 39 years of service with them. John was a veteran of WWII and served his country proudly in the Navy serving with the armed guard. While in the Navy, he earned the American Theater Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Medal, the European Theater Medal and the Victory Medal before being honorably discharged in 1946. He was a member of Bethpage Masonic Lodge in Farmingdale, NY and the Presbyterian Church in Melville, NY. John was an avid collector of model trains, planes and automobiles and most of all, enjoyed spending time with his loving family.
He leaves his devoted wife of 50 years, Barbara M. (Rucker) Gross, their loving children, David Gross of Mastic Beach, LI, NY, Andrew Gross of Hauppauge, NY and Susan Gaw and her husband Frank of Londonderry. John also leaves his beloved grandchildren, Frankie Gaw and John Gross.
The funeral service will be held Sunday August 2 at the Presbyterian Church of Sweet Hollow, Melvill, NY at 2p.m. The burial will be in the Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island on Monday August 3rd.
