Joseph M. Benevides, age 76, of Fall River, passed away July 16, 2009. Husband of Irene (Silva) Benevides. Born in Fall River, son of the late Manuel M. & Maria (Felicia) Benevides. Joe was a graduate of BMC Durfee High School, and prior to retiring; he worked as a Field Inspector for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Highway Dept. He was a Korean & Vietnam War veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, Marine Corp Reserves, and the U.S. Army Reserves. Joe was a parishioner of St. Joseph Church, past president of the Liberal Club 1973-1990, a member of the St. Johns Club, Over the Hill Gang, & the U.S.S. Massachusetts Battleship Cove Cadet Program.
Besides his wife of Fall River, he is survived by his four children: Joseph Benevides Jr. and his wife Jane of Lakeville, Debra Aguiar & her husband John, Linda Pavao & her husband Manuel, Diane Guay & her husband Donald all of Fall River. Two brothers: Domingos & Arsenno “Snooks” Benevides both of Fall River. 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and many nieces & nephews. He was the brother of the late Manuel, Bento, John, Edward, & Lorraine Benevides.
His funeral will take place from the MANUEL ROGERS& SONS FUNERAL HOME, 1521 N. Main St. MONDAY at 9:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Joseph Church at 10:00 A.M. Interment in Notre Dame Mausoleum. Calling hours SUNDAY 4-8 P.M.
