Whitman – Wallace A. “Wally” Peterson 86, a longtime resident of Whitman, passed away comfortably in his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday July 15, after a lengthy illness. He was the devoted husband of Muriel (Rice) Peterson for 63 years.
Born and raised in Brockton he was the son of the late Edward and Bertha (Lindberg) Peterson and a graduate of Brockton High Class of 1941.
Wally was a veteran of the US Army Air Corp having served from 1943-1946.
He spent 17 years of retirement in Florida, where he was active in the church choir, before returning to Whitman in 2006.
He was one of the original founders of the former St. Mark’s Church of Abington, what is now the Joy in Christ Church.
Wally enjoyed gardening, and lived a long, happy and fulfilling life.
In addition to his wife Muriel he is survived by his children Paul E. Peterson and his wife Kathleen of Taunton, Gail J. Hussy, Mark S. Peterson and his wife Carole, and Timothy Peterson and his wife Robin all of Whitman, his grandchildren Jimmy-Paul, Theresa, Lisa Jazon and her husband Ian, Jason, David, Erica, Rob and TJ, as well as many nieces and nephews and many friends who will miss him dearly. He was the brother of the late Alton and George Peterson.
His funeral service will be held Saturday July 18 at 11 AM in the Joy in Christ Church, Abington. Burial will be held at a later date. Visiting hours will be held one hour prior to the service from 10 -11AM at the Joy in Christ Lutheran Church. Donations in his name may be made to the Joy in Christ Church, 21 S.
