Dr. John E. Gerety, passed away Monday at the Winchester Hopsital, Winchester following a lengthy illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Emma F. (McDonough) who died twelve years ago. Dr. Gerety was eighty-seven years old.
Born in Everett, Dr. Gerety was a graduate of Everett High School, Tufts University class of 1939, and Tufts Dental School class of 1943. He still maintained practices in Woburn and Everett, and was a resident of Woburn since 1950. He was devoted to his late wife and to raising his family. He was an active parishioner at St. Joseph Church, and also active in his community and profession as a member of the Woburn Lodge of Elks, the MA Dental Society and American Dental Society. Dr. Gerety was on the staff of the Whidden Memorial Hospital of Everett and the Winchester Hospital, Winchester. During World War II, Capt. Gerety served in India and Central Burma with the US Army Air Corps.
Surviving are four sons; John E. Jr. and his wife Janis of Andover, Robert P. and his wife Deborah, Joseph W. Gerety, and Thomas F. and his wife Patti, all of Woburn. Also seven loving grandchildren. He is predeceased by his late son James F. Gerety, and seven brothers; Joseph, Edward, Robert, Richard, William, Frank and Harold Gerety and two sisters; Marion Messias and Jane Gerety.
His funeral will be held from the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Funeral Home 60 Pleasant St. Woburn on Saturday, August 2, at 9 a.m., followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 100 Washington St. Woburn at 10. Services will conclude with burial at Calvary Cemetery, Woburn.
