Tadeusz F. “Ted” Swiszcz, 85, of New Bedford passed away on Monday, July 13, 2009 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the loving husband of Jeanne (Weaver) Swiszcz. They were married 57 years.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Jozef and Apolonia (Stachowicz) Swiszcz. A lifelong resident of New Bedford, he graduated from New Bedford Vocational High School.
Mr. Swiszcz served in the U.S. Army during WWII in the European Theater and held the rank of Staff Sargeant.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony of Padua Church.
He was formerly employed by Revere Copper and Brass for 42 years, retiring as superintendent of maintenance.
Mr. Swiszcz was interested in history and enjoyed reading, music and photography. As a patriot, he took pleasure in hosting Independence Day celebrations for over 35 years where he featured his collection of flags.
Survivors in addition to his wife are four children: Charles and his wife Lisa Friedlander of Minneapolis, MN, Jane and her companion Peter Caron of New Bedford, Paul and his wife Jan Marose of Longmont, CO and Carolyn Swiszcz Webb and her husband Wilson of W. St. Paul, MN; three grandchildren, Peter and Sophie Swiszcz and Ramona Webb; his sister in law, Cecelia Swiszcz, his brother in law, Thomas Weaver and his wife Yvonne and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Sally Mastine, Paul, Stanley, Kazimierz and Walter Swiszcz.

Funeral will be from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford on Friday, July 17, 2009 at 8:30 AM followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1359 Acushnet Ave. at 9:30 AM. Internment will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday, July 16th from 4-8 PM.
