Peter Fredric Maurice, II M.D. of West Roxbury, formerly of San Bernardino and Dana Point, CA, passed away on July 14, 2009. He was 83 years old. Born and raised in Frankfort, NY, Dr. Maurice served in WWII from 1944 to 1946 as an Electronics Technician’s Mate Second Class in the US Navy. He earned the Asiatic Pacific Medal, the American Theater Medal and the Victory Medal. Following the war, Dr. Maurice attended Syracuse University where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in chemistry. He went on to Fordham University and earned his Master of Science Degree in biochemistry, and then to Georgetown University Medical School where he graduated in 1955. Upon completing his residency and fellowship in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology in Jersey City, NJ, Dr. Maurice was board certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. He practiced medicine for 35 years in San Bernardino, CA where he was also a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology. He retired to Dana Point, CA and subsequently to West Roxbury.
Dr. Maurice loved the practice of medicine, reading, music, electronics, car mechanics, fishing and travel. He was a wonderful father and loving husband and is survived by his wife of 45 years, Mary Mitchell Maurice of West Roxbury. He is also survived by his 4 children, daughter Patricia Maurice Gray, Pharm.D. and her husband Steven Gray, Pharm.D., JD of Chino Hills, CA.; his sons Michael Maurice, MS and his wife Susan Maurice of Culver City, CA.; John Maurice, MD of Dana Point, CA.; and Peter Maurice III, M.D. and his wife Janel Lardizabal and their children, Joseph Maurice, Jaclyn Maurice and James Maurice of Seattle, WA. He is also survived by his 4 siblings, Marge (Maurice) DeMatteis of Charlottesville, VA; Jane (Maurice) Hanlon of Williamsville, NY; Ann (Maurice) Halliday and husband Eugene Halliday of Horseheads, NY and Louise (Maurice) Zigarelli of Syracuse, NY. Also survived by several nieces and nephews and great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Dr. Maurice’s Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, July 17, 2009 at St. John Chrysostom Church on Washington St. in West Roxbury. Donations in his memory may be made to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute 10 Brookline Place West, 6th floor Brookline, MA 02445-7226 ATTN: Contribution Services.
