John P. Lowe, age 86, of Harvard Lane, Mystic, passed away July 12th at his home.
John was born in O’Meeth, County Louth, Ireland on March 23, 1923 the oldest child to John and Rosaleen (Hardy) Lowe. After receiving his education, he entered the US Marines where he proudly served during World War II.
After moving to the area, he purchased John’s Café in Mystic in 1967, a popular Irish Pub which he ran for many years before retiring.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Burke) Lowe; his children, Kathleen Monahan of NY, and Kevin and Brian Lowe, both of Mystic; his grandsons, Sean and Ryan Lowe; 2 sisters, Rosaleen Smith of OR, and Nora Derespirs of NY; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, John P. Lowe Jr. in 1979 and a grandson, Jesse Lowe.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Patrick Church, E. Main Street, Mystic on Thursday at 1pm. Private burial with presentation of military honors will follow in the family plot at St. Patrick Cemetery, Old Mystic.
