AUGUSTA, Ga. – Entered into rest on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at his residence, Mr. Robert W. “Bob” Gibbs, Sr., 74, husband of Joan Gibbs of Augusta.
Mr. Gibbs was a native and lifelong resident of Augusta. He graduated in 1955 Suma Cum Laude from UGA with a Masters in Mathematics and was a member of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity. While at UGA, he lettered in track setting records that lasted until the 1970’s. Mr. Gibbs was also in the Army National Guard while in college. After graduation he chose the US Army for 2 years activation where he served as an artillery instructor at Ft. Bliss, TX. After the Army he went to work with Commercial Credit and worked at several used car dealerships before opening Bob Gibbs Motors.
Family members in addition to his wife include his son, Robert W. Gibbs, Jr and wife Deborah; daughters: Donna Lawson and husband James, and Cindy May and husband Kelly; 6 grandchildren; and 3 sisters: Bettye Milliams and husband Bill, Christine Kauffman and husband James, and Martha Marohn.
The memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 14, 2009, at 11:00 AM in the chapel of Thomas Poteet & Son with Rev. Baxter Stanley officiating.
