Dorothy (Smith) Steele, 100, of N. Dartmouth passed away Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Hathaway Manor in New Bedford. She was wife of the late John B. Steele.
Born in New Bedford, daughter of the late Thomas and Alice (Ashton) Smith, she had lived in Dartmouth for most of her life. Prior to retirement in 1973, she was a dietary aide for St. Luke’s Hospital in New Bedford. She was a member of the Greater Dartmouth Seniors and the Dartmouth Fire District #3 Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Steele enjoyed gardening, rug braiding, knitting and scrabble.
Survivors include 2 sons: Robert T. Steele and his wife Emily of Dartmouth; 2 daughters: Dorothy S. Carvalho and her husband George of S. Dartmouth and Susan E. Rogers and her husband Tony of Cary, NC; 12 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; several great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was mother of the late John B. Steele, Jr., and David A. Steele, grandmother of the late David A. Steele, Jr. and sister of the late Mildred Smith and Barbara Norton.
