TEWKSBURY: Howard H. Barter, Jr. age 68, a Tewksbury resident for 47 years, passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 at home.
He was the husband of Brenda L. (Caswell) Barter, who passed in 1988.
Born in Somerville on August 7, 1940, he was the son of the late Howard H. Barter, Sr. and Helen M. (Roach) Barter.
Mr. Barter was raised in Mechanicsville, NY, attended Mechanicsville schools and graduated from Mechanicsville High School in 1958.
Mr. Barter served for 8 years in the U.S. Army National Guard.
Prior to his retirement , he was employed as a supervisor by the G.T.E. Sylvania Company in Needham, where he worked for 24 years. Mr. Barter was currently employed by the Boston Lobster Company for the past 10 years.
Mr. Barter was an avid boater and fisherman and especially enjoyed competing in shark fishing tournaments.
He also enjoyed time spent boating with his grandchildren and family aboard the "C'est Si Bon Bon".
Mr. Barter is survived by one daughter, Sherry L. Dignan and her husband Steven of Hudson, NH; five grandchildren, Howard H. Barter, IV of Tewksbury, Derek, Nickolas, Nathan and Noelle Dignan all of Hudson, NH; one great granddaughter, Kalynn Barter of Tewksbury; his companion, Elaine Montgomery of Arlington; and his former daughter-in-law, Dianne Emmons Nocco of Tewksbury.
Mr. Barter was the father of the late Howard H. Barter, III.
Calling hours Monday, July 13th, from 6-8 p.m., at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee St., Tewksbury. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 14th, at 10 a.m., at the funeral home . Private graveside services will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton.
