Obituary

LEICESTER___Roman S. Smola, 81, of Leicester lost his life to cancer on July 10, 2009.

He leaves his wife, Halina (Gibka) Smola, a daughter, Beata Kukul of Czestochowa, Poland; a step daughter, Agnieszka Marciniak of Zgierz, Poland; two brothers, Jozef Smola and Wilhelm Smola and a sister, Izabela Klempka all of Lubsko, Poland; two grandsons, one step granddaughter, one step grandson and nephews and nieces. His first wife, Zofia (Gibka) Smola died in 1991. He was also predeceased by a brother and a sister, Eugeniusz Smola and Toni Zimmerman. He was born in Tarnow, Poland a son of Wladyslaw and Bronislawa (Grunfeld) Smola and came to the Worcester area in the 1960’s.

Mr. Smola was a machine operator many years for Worcester Controls. He retired several years ago. He was a member of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, Worcester and was a political activist. Roman was a Polish – American patriot. He served his countries during World War II and after fighting for democracy.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 15 from HENRY-DIRSA FUNERAL HOME, 33 Ward Street, Worcester with a Mass at 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street, Worcester. He will be buried in Poland. Calling hours in the funeral home are Tuesday, July 14 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
