Ruth M. Goodchild of Wren Court, Derry, died January 10, 2002 at the Hanover Hill Health Care Center in Manchester after a brief illness. She was born in Chelsea, Mass., a daughter of the late William and Ella (Landers) McDonald and had been a resident of Derry for most of her life. She was a graduate of Pinkerton Academy in Derry and of Hesser Business School in Manchester. Mrs. Goodchild had been employed as an executive secretary for both Chelmsford Shoe Co. in Derry, and later for Salvage Shoe Co. She had also worked part-time at the Derry Public Library for many years. She was a communicant of St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Derry. She was the widow of Louis T. McDonald.
She is survived by two sons, Gerald B. Goodchild of Merritt Island, Fla., Alan W. Goodchild of Derry, six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, her brother, Edward McDonald of San Francisco, Cal., several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Mary McDonald who died in 2001.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 14th at 10:00 in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Crystal Ave., Derry. The burial will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery in Londonderry in the Spring. Friends may call at the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry on Sunday, January 13th from 2 – 4.
