Freetown – Albert R. Laventure, 77, of E. Freetown died at home July 27, 2003 after a long illness. He was husband of the late Irene M. (Laliberte) Laventure.
He was born in Westport son of the late Ernest E. and Mary I. (Tripp) Laventure and resided in E. Freetown since 1968. He was employed by the former Andrews & Pierce, New Bedford as a truck driver until his retirement in 1983.
Mr. Laventure was a U.S. Army veteran of WW II and a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of Local # 59 Teamsters and the V.F.W. Private A. Poirier Post # 3260, New Bedford. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening and was known to all of his neighborhood children as “Grampie”.
Survivors include a son: Roger A. Laventure and his wife Janice of E. Freetown; 2 grandsons: Brad R. Laventure of Boynton Beach, FL and Scott A. Laventure of E. Freetown; 2 brothers: Ernest E. Laventure of New Bedford and Joseph A. Laventure of Tiverton, RI; a sister: Janet B. Lanagan of E. Freetown; his long time companion: Jessie Simmons of New Bedford; and several nieces & nephews. He was brother of the late Hilda M. Cornell.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday 5-8 P.M.
Services to which relatives and friends are invited will be held Thursday at 10:00 A.M. at the KIRBY FUNERAL HOME, 61 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford.
Interment in Maple Grove Cemetery, Westport.
