Anthony V. Lumia

...formerly of Tewksbury, age 42

NASHUA - Anthony V. Lumia, age 42, a well known baseball player in both high school and college, died Tuesday, July 7, 2009, unexpectedly in his home in Nashua, NH. He had fought a courageous battle against Muscular Dystrophy. He was born August 31, 1966 in Lowell, MA and was raised in Tewksbury, the son of Suzanne M. (Ducharme) Lumia of Hudson, NH, and the late James R. Lumia. He lived the greater part of his life in Tewksbury before moving to Nashua, NH, five years ago.

He was best known in the area for his talent as a baseball pitcher. His love for pitching began in Tewksbury's Youth Baseball League, and continued at Central Catholic High School in Lawrence, and Salem State College.

Besides his mother, he is survived by a sister Kim Silva and her husband Roy of Hudson, NH, an uncle Joseph Damato of NH, a niece Ashley Silva and nephew Michael Silva both of Hudson, and cousins Eric and Danielle.

His Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday, July 14, in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Andover, MA. Burial followed at St. Mary Cemetery, River Road, Tewksbury. Memorials to the Muscular Dystrophy Association at MDA Boston North, 152 Conant Street 2nd Floor, Beverly, MA, 01915, will be appreciated.
