James T. Ruffing, 62

James T. Ruffing, 62, of Norton passed away in the presence of his loving family on Wednesday July 8, 2009 at the Caritas Norwood Hospital in Norwood. He was the beloved husband of Claudia L. (Macaluso) Ruffing to whom he was married on July 16, 1967.
Born in Paterson, New Jersey on November 14, 1946 he was a dear son of the late Joseph and Euphemia (Yorke) Ruffing.
Jim grew up and was educated in Paterson and was a 1964 graduate of Eastside High School in Paterson. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and was honorably discharged on August 18, 1968 with the rank of SP4 (T). He later went on to further his studies at Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island and received a degree in business.
For the past 15 years Mr. Ruffing was employed as a Sales Manager at Stearn-Leach Industries in Attleboro and had previously worked for 24 years at the former Englehard Co. in Plainville.
A communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Norton, Jim was an active member of the Norton VFW Post 8049 and was also a member of the Norton American Legion Post 222.
Jim’s life centered round his adoring family whom he loved very much and his granddaughter was the sparkle in his eyes. Always there to lend a helping hand to others, Jim was an avid sports fan and enjoyed trips to Foxwoods Casino. He had made his home in Norton for the past 36 years.
In addition to his beloved wife of nearly 42 years he is survived by his devoted children Joseph S. Ruffing and Patricia M. Ruffing both of Norton. He was the cherished grandfather of Felicia P. Ruffing-Carter of Norton and is also survived by his sister Ethel Rosetko of New Jersey, his aunt Josephine Westdyk of West Palm, Florida and several nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
His funeral, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday July 13th at 8:00 A.M. from the Norton Memorial Funeral Home 19 Clapp St. (Off Route 140, Taunton Ave.) Norton followed by a mass of Christian burial celebrated at 9:00 A.M. in St. Mary’s Church 133 South Worcester St. Norton. Military honors will be performed at the conclusion of the funeral mass. Private burial will be held at a later date in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
Visiting hours will be held on Sunday July 12th from 4-7 P.M. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, Jim’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to the Norton VFW Veterans Fund P.O. Box 1107 Norton, MA 02766.
