Mr. Francis M. “Red" Smith, of Taunton, died Tuesday, July 7 in Morton Hospital
following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of 56 years of Josephine B. (Brown) Smith. He was born 81 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Frank and Annie (Melville) Smith. He was educated in Taunton and had been a lifelong city resident. Prior to his retirement he had been employed as a printer for the Taunton Daily Gazette for 40 years. He had also been employed as a photofinish operator for the the Raynham Dog Track and the former Taunton Dog Track for 20 years. Red also worked as a dispatcher at Armand's Garage in Taunton for 10 years. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Smith served in the Merchant Marine. He loved his dog, Benji, and was a Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots fan and enjoyed spending time with his family, as well as vacationing in Florida and Cape Cod. He was a communicant of the former Immaculate Conception Church in Taunton.
In addition to his wife, he leaves:
1 son: Stephen C. Smith, and his wife, Susan of East Taunton
1 daughter: Dawn Boucher and her husband, Bradford of Taunton
1 sister: Audrey Brady of Woodsville, N.H.
3 grandchildren: Jeffrey Smith, Shawna Boucher and Stephen F. Smith
several nieces and nephews
He was also the brother of the late Robert Smith and June Marsden.
Funeral services will be held from The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay
Street on Monday, July 13 at 10:00 A.M. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow in St. Jude the Apostle Church at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be in the V.A. National Cemetery, Bourne. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours will be held on
Sunday, June 12, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M.
