Obituary

Goddard, Edwin Carl, 95, a longtime resident of Teaneck, NJ passed away peacefully on May 26, 2009 at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center in Laguna Hills, CA. He was preceded by his wife of 57 years, Sylvan Ward Goddard, on February 27, 2007. He had been residing in Laguna Hills, CA since 2002 near his daughter, Ellen Smith and son in law, David Smith. He is also survived by his son, Alvin Goddard of Kendall Park, NJ and 5 grandchildren, Lauren & Matthew Goddard and Patricia, Catherine and Julia Smith and step grandson, Neil Smith of Smyrna, DE.
Edwin was born on February 13, 1914 in Richmond Hill, NY. He graduated from Ryder College in 1936 and worked with his father, Alvin C. Goddard, at his appliance manufacturing company in NYC. He enlisted in the US Army in 1940 and served with the 29th Infantry Division in Iceland, England, France and Belgium during WW II until he was honorably discharged in October 1945.
He met Sylvan Ward in 1948 and they were married April 23, 1949. They lived in Freshmeadows, Long Island and moved to Teaneck, NJ in 1953 with their daughter, Ellen. Their son, Alvin, was born in 1957. Edwin worked for the Teaneck Board of Education until his retirement in 1978.
Ed enjoyed gardening, playing horseshoes and participating in church activities with Sylvan. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He will be remembered for his warm heart, kind disposition and sense of humor. He will be missed by his family and loved ones.
Memorial services are planned for Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 1 PM at the 2nd Reformed Church in Hackensack, NJ.
