Obituary

Worcester- Steven J. Szczurko, 78, formerly of 26 Park Terrace Road, died Thursday, July 24, in Sunbridge for Holyoke.

His wife, Joan E. Godbout, died in 1994. He leaves a son, John S. Szczurko of Sutton; a daughter, Jill S. Gallagher of Spencer; 6 grandchildren; nephews and nieces. Three brothers, Stanley Szczurko, Benjamin Szczurko, and John Szczurko, predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of John and Katrin (Koniuszko) Szczurko, and lived here most of his life.

Mr. Szczurko was a mechanic for 20 years at Table Talk Pie Company, before retiring.

He was a World Ward II U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a Navy armed guard.

He was a member of the Polish Naturalization Independent Club, the White Eagle Association and was a life member of the Polish American Veterans of World War II. He was a former member of St. Stephen's Catholic Parish and the Worcester Surfcasting Club.

The funeral will be held Monday, July 28 from Dirsa-Morin Funeral Home, 298 Grafton Street, with a Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Stephen's Church, 357 Grafton Street. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Cemetery, Northbridge. Calling hours are from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 27, in the funeral home. Member of the Polish American Veterans of World War II will conduct a service at 6:30 p.m. during the calling hours. Contributions may be made to the Central Massachusetts Shelter for Homeless Veterans, 69 Grove Street, Worcester, MA 01605.
