Obituary

John R. Rice, 100, of Franklin, died, Saturday, July 4, 2009 at the Milford Care & Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of Anne (Lennon) Rice who died in 1990.

Born in Milford on September 3, 1908, he was a son of the late Stephen and Mary (Walsh) Rice.

Mr. Rice was a resident of Franklin for most of his life.

Retiring in 1974, he was a textile worker at Kendall Mills in Walpole for many years. He had also worked in many other area mills.

Mr. Rice was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Franklin and was an avid horserace fan.

He is survived by his son, Richard W. Rice and his wife, Diane K. of Mendon, four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his devoted niece, Patricia Davis of Franklin and many other nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late John R. Rice and brother of the late Peter Rice, his twin and Stephen Rice, Margaret Ryan, Alice Fied and Mae Rice.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral from the Ginley Funeral Home of Franklin, 131 Main St., Franklin on Tuesday, July 7 at 8:15 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church in Franklin at 9 a.m.

Burial will follow in the parish cemetery.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 3 - 7 p.m.
