
Doogin Davis, 87, of Tifton died Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Tift Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 4, 2009, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Rev. Dan Eidson will officiate with burial to follow in Tift Memorial Gardens. Danny Thompson, Melvin Thompson, Bobby Stone, Larry Stone, Jerry Rutland and Darrell Abbott will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Cleo Stone, Oris Stone, Grady Thompson, Bobby Metts, Robert Burdett, Buddy Pitts and Sammie Ray. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 3, 2009 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals.
Mr. Davis was born on April 18, 1922 in Tift County and was the son of Thomas Jefferson Davis and Rosa Lee Parham Davis, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by four brothers, Henry Davis, Tom Davis, Pete Davis and Rube Davis; and five sisters, McRae Davis Slocum, Clara Davis, Ruckor Davis, Alice Davis Pitcock, and Nellie Davis McMillan. He was a retired truck driver for Phillips 66 Gas Company and a member of Eldorado Missionary Baptist Church. He was a lifetime resident of Tift County.
Mr. Davis is survived by his wife, Daphne Iola Stone Davis of Tifton; one son and daughter-in-law, James Emerson Davis and his wife, Shirley, of Chula; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan Lynn Davis Black and her husband, Dr. J. Durward Black of Cartersville; three grandchildren, Amy Davis Sanders, Ebecca Black Clements and Patrick Black; one great grandchild, Joshua Odom; and several nieces and nephews.
