David A. Richmond, 68, of 79 Homestead Rd. in Ledyard, died June 28, 2009, at his home in the comfort of his loving family.
He was born July 26, 1940, on the Akwesasne Mohawk Reservation in Hogansburg, N.Y., the son of the late Donald and Irene (Ransom) Richmond.
He was a Vietnam veteran serving two tours of duty. He was united in marriage to the former Trudie Ray of the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation in August of 1978, in the Long House. Mrs. Richmond survives him.
Mr. Richmond was a self-employed contractor building homes, and had formerly worked as an iron worker in the Local Union throughout New York and Connecticut. As in his heritage, David was a warrior for the Mohawk Nation but also for the United States.
Besides his beloved wife he is survived by two sons, Lance Richmond of New York and Jerry Swamp of Akwesasne; three daughters, Marie, Janice, and Diane Richmond; two step-children, Jason Lamb of Ledyard and Erin Lamb-Meeches of Meriden; two sisters, Theresa Wagner of Oswego, N.Y. and Joan Calcogno of Akwesasne; a brother, Donald Richmond of Altoona, Pa.; numerous grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
His family will greet relatives and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. on Thursday at the home of Joanne "Dark Eyes" Isaacs at 325 Shewville Rd., Ledyard with a service to be held at 4 p.m.
Viewing will also be held on Friday at an all-night wake at the Sitting Bull Camp on the Akwesasne Mohawk Tribal Nation. Funeral rites will be held there on Saturday at the Long House. Interment and tribal burial rites will take place on Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Akwesasne, Cornwall Island.
