Obituary

George Joseph Saba, 87, of New Bedford died Wednesday July 23, 2003 at Sacred Heart Home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Mary C. (Constantine) Saba, to whom he was married for 59 years.

A lifelong resident of New Bedford, he was the son of the late Yusef and Yusfeyeh (Eberianos) Saba.

He was a communicant of Our Lady of Purgatory Church.

Mr. Saba was former proprietor of Railroad Salvage Company on Linden Street in New Bedford until his retirement in 1978.

Mr. Saba served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was the founder and first Commander of the Lebanese-American Veteran's Association of New Bedford, a lifetime member of the Lebanon American Club in Fall River, an active supporter of his Church and community, and a loyal friend.

A devoted husband and father, he loved nothing better than spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife; 5 sons, Mark D. Saba, and his wife Patti, of North Dartmouth, Steven J. Saba, and his wife Debbie, of East Freetown, George M. Saba, and his companion Mary Jane Murray, of Fairhaven, Peter C. Saba of New Bedford, and Michael J. Saba, and his wife Lisa, of Norton; a daughter, Annemarie Saba Espinola, and her husband Steven, of New Bedford; a brother, Michael J. Saba of Milton, Fla.; 6 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.He was the brother of the late Assad J. Saba, Peter J. Saba, Paul J. Saba and Mary N. Saba.

Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordSaturday July 26, 2003 at 8 AM.Divine Liturgy in Our Lady of Purgatory Church at 9 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be on Friday July 25, 2003 from 4-8 PM. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Mary's Cemetery.
