BEVERLY: Ida R. (Amore) Menesale, 96, formerly of the Harborlight House, died peacefully Saturday, June 27, 2009 in the Essex Park Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Beverly. She was the wife of the late Dominic J. Menesale who died in April 1971.
Born in Beverly on June 28, 1912, she was the daughter of the late Alfio and Barbara (Ragonese) Amore. She has resided in Beverly most of her life.
Ida and her husband, Dominic, built, owned and operated the Wayside Motel and Restaurant on Route 95 in Byfield for eleven years, from 1960 – 1971. She enjoyed walking and exercising. In years past she was a regular at the Beverly High School track, walking three miles every other day. She loved gardening and was well known for her knack of growing fresh vegetables and beautiful flowers. Cooking was also one of her favorite hobbies, especially when the food was prepared for her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. Ida was also a communicant of St. Mary Star of the Sea Church for over eighty-years.
She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Victor and Corinne Menesale of Beverly, Alfred and Patricia Menesale of Centerville (Cape Cod) and Anthony and Beverly “Sue” Menesale of Beverly, eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Charles Amore, Joseph and his wife, Virginia Amore, and Rita Amore all of Beverly and many nieces and nephews. She was also predeceased by her brother, Dominic “Doc” Amore and sister-in-law, Catherine Amore.
Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday in the St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, 253 Cabot St., Beverly at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 or to the Shriner’s Hospital, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114. Interment will be privately held in the St. Mary’s Cemetery, Beverly.
