DUDLEY – William R. Sgariglia, Sr., 66, of Alton Drive, died Friday, June 26, at home after being stricken ill.
He leaves 2 sons, William R. “Billy” Sgariglia, Jr. of Dudley and Rock Dubois of Townsend; 2 grandchildren, Kyle and Danielle; a sister, Carole A. Sgariglia of Dudley; and many friends.
He was born and raised in Webster, the son of Dominic J. and Delia R. (Russo) Sgariglia. He moved to Dudley in 1970. He graduated from Bartlett Trade High School.
He was a Navy veteran, serving as a signalman aboard the USS Wasp during the Cuban missile crisis and in the Vietnam Era.
Mr. Sgariglia was an auto body technician. He owned and operated Bill’s Auto Body in Oxford for many years, retiring in 2004.
He enjoyed NASCAR racing. He also was involved in owning and racing horses in harness races.
The funeral will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, July 1, in Scanlon Funeral Service, 38 East Main St.,Webster. Burial will be in Saint Roch’s Cemetery, Oxford. The Webster-Dudley Veterans Council will perform the military honors at the cemetery. Calling hours will be from 6:00 to 9:00 PM Tuesday, June 30, at the funeral home.
