Edith E. (Totman) McGonagle, 83, of Medway, died Thursday, June 25, 2009 at her home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of Joseph G. McGonagle who died in 1981.
Born in Haverhill on November 23, 1925, she was a daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (Parker) Totman.
Mrs. McGonagle grew up in Haverhill and later moved to West Roxbury and graduated from Roslindale High School. She had resided in Medway since 1967.
A homemaker most of her life, during WWII, she worked as a welder at the Charlestown Navy Yard. She had also been a bus driver for Norfolk Agricultural High School and Tri-County Regional High School from 1974-1981.
A favorite pastime of Mrs. McGonagle was square dancing with her husband.
She is survived by four sons, Joseph McGonagle Jr. of Gatesville, TX, William McGonagle of Naples, FL and James and David McGonagle, both of Medway and a daughter, Edith McGonagle of Medway. She was mother of the late Thomas McGonagle who died this past February.
She is also survived by a sister, Eleanor Martin of Wilmington and 6 grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral on Wednesday, July 1 at 9:15 a.m. from the Ginley-Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St., Medway followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph’s Church, 151 Village St., Medway at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Boston.
Calling hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 – 8 p.m.
