Margaret C. (Kane) Roper
...retired from Courier Citizen Co; 89
TEWKSBURY - Margaret C. "Peggy" (Kane) Roper, 89, died Wednesday afternoon, June 24, at the Wingate of Lowell, following a long period of declining health. She was the wife of the late James E. Roper.
She was born in Somerville, August 28, 1919, a daughter of the late Francis L. and Margaret C. (Mahoney) Kane, was raised in Billerica, but moved to Tewksbury in her teenage years. She graduated from Tewksbury High School in 1937, and was remembered by her family as an accomplished high school athlete. She graduated from the Tewksbury Hospital School of Nursing, and worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Tewksbury Hospital for several years. She went on to work at the Merrimack Mills, and eventually retired from the Courier Citizen Company. She was a member of the Teamsters Union during her employment at Courier Citizen.
She was a communicant of St. William's Church, and was active in the church's Sodality. She was described by her family as an avid reader with a love for animals.
She was predeceased by her five brothers, Joseph L. Kane, Charles F. Kane, James P. Kane, William E. Kane, and John C. Kane, and survived by her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary A. (Donovan) Kane, Mary E. (Cheetha m) Kane, William and Isabelle (Chandler) Roper all of Tewksbury, Winnifred (Flanagan) Kane of VT; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews.
She was also sister-in-law of the late Louis and Grace Marion, Richard and Bernice Treadwell, Mark "Red" Roper, Albert and Mary (Donnelly) Roper, and James "Bub" and Irene (Roper) Manley.
Her Funeral Mass was celebrated Monday, June 29, in St. William's Church, Tewksbury. Burial was in Tewksbury Cemetery. Memorials to the Oblate Father's Infirmary Fund, 486 Chandler St. Tewksbury, MA 01876 will be appreciated.
