Kenneth J. “Ken” Dumond, 81, of Chateau Clare, died Wednesday evening at home.
Born in Gill, Massachusetts, he was a son of the late Francis Xavier and Helen E. (Dwyer) Dumond. He was raised in Maine and resided in Boston, Providence, and Northampton, MA before moving to Woonsocket. He attended the University of Maine.
Mr. Dumond worked for the Massachusetts Dept. of Mental Health for many years and also worked in the food service dept. at Mass. General Hospital in Boston.
Beginning in his late-30s Ken began to explore his gift of painting, particularly creating murals. He crafted many murals in Maine, Boston, and Providence. Locally, Ken is best known for his work in Chateau Clare and Precious Blood Church. While he was rightly proud of his paintings and murals, Ken was also humble about his talent. True to his outlook on life, he looked upon his abilities simply as sharing his gift from God with others.
Ken is survived by three sons, Daniel Dumond of Salem, MA, Mark Dumond of Maine, and Michael Dumond of NH, a brother, Paul Dumond of NH, two sisters, Rose Henderson of Lynn, MA, and Sr. Mary Dumond C.P. of Riverside. He was the father of the late Paul Dumond, and brother of the late Katherine Cunningham. He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be Monday at 9:00 am from the Menard Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave., Woonsocket, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in Precious Blood Church, Carrington Ave., Woonsocket. Burial will follow in Notre Dame Cemetery, Daggett Ave., Pawtucket. Visiting hours are Sunday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Precious Blood Parish, 94 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket, RI. 02895. Please find guestbook and directions at www.menardfuneralhome.com.
