Albina "Abby" (Osenkowski) Medeiros of New Bedford died unexpectedly on Thursday June 25, 2009. She was the wife of the late John Medeiros.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Stanley and Agnes (Hamot) Osenkowski, she lived in New Bedford most of her life. She had been a resident of Sippican Healthcare Center in Marion for the past year.
She was a communicant of Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church and a former communicant of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church.
Abby was formerly employed by Fernandes Supermarket in Dartmouth as a customer service representative for many years until retirement.
Babcia, as she was known to her family and friends, was proud of her Polish heritage and enjoyed attending Polish School and the Adam Mickiewicz Club. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and spending time with her family. She had a contagious smile and a great love for life which she enjoyed living to its fullest.
Survivors include a son, Robert J. Medeiros and his wife Christine of New Bedford; 3 daughters, Christine J. O'Docharty and her husband Tom of North Carolina, Kathleen A. Coulombe of Fairhaven, and Elaine J. Medeiros of New Bedford; 3 sisters, Emelia Jachna and Mary Witkowicz, both of Fairhaven, and Flora Reeder of Maryland; 2 brothers-in-law, Felix Witkowicz of Fairhaven and George Souza of Acushnet; 5 grandchildren, Ashley Medeiros, Lynne Birchfield and her husband Matthew, Steven Coulombe and his wife Jessica, Kelly Miller and her husband Josiah and Katie O'Docharty; 5 great-grandchildren, Cyrus, Ayden, Lukas Birchfield, Benjamin Miller and Stella Coulombe; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was the sister of the late Helen Brennan, Cecilia Osenkowski, Caroline Zyskowski and Stella Souza.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals, 495 Park St. New Bedford Tuesday, June 30th at 8 AM. Funeral Mass in St. James Church at 9 AM. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours Monday, June 29th from 4-8 PM.
