WORCESTER-Ellen “Nellie” (Cleary) Conlon, 99 formerly of 425 Pleasant Street, 3 Ives Street and Fitchburg, died Saturday, July 19th in the St. Francis Home. Her husband Henry Conlon died in 1973. She leaves many nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and grand-nieces. Mrs.Conlon had 5 brothers and 4 sister who predeceased her.
She was born in Bally Poreen, County Tipperary, Ireland the daughter of Patrick and Ellen (Meaney) Cleary and moved to Fitchburg in 1924. Mrs. Conlon was educated in Ireland and had been a member of Blessed Sacrament Church. In September of 2002 The Boston Sunday Globe featured her in an article as the recipient of the Post award. This tradition dates back to 1909 when the Boston Post honored the oldest residents of cities and towns in New England.
The funeral will be Saturday, July 26th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 11:00 AM in Blessed Sacrament Church, 555 Pleasant Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Saturday, July 26th from 9:00 AM until the time of the funeral.
