Obituary

Merker, Alexandra age 89 of Teaneck died Saturday, June 20, 2009. Beloved wife of the late Charles Merker. She is survived by her sister, her nieces and nephews as well as the many friends and associates she had made in the art community through her many lectures and exhibits. Alexandra studied all the plastic art mediums at the Art Students League in NYC of which she was a lifetime member. She painted throughout the world and was exhibited both Nationally and Internationally. She represented in the US during the Festival International de Peinture in France; Galleria San Marco in Rome; and the Riverside Museum in NYC among others. She has lectured, taught, and organized International, National and local Art Exhibitions. She was the former president of Lithuanian Artists of Greater N.Y., the former vice-president and treasurer of Modern Artists Guild, as well as the Bergen Community Museum. She was also a Charter Member of the North Jersey Cultural Council. She is listed in the Lithuanian Encyclopedia as well as Lithuanian World Who’s Who. She was also Chairman of Painting and Sculpture Exhibition at the N.Y. World’s Fair for Lithuanian part icipation. Family and friends are invited to visit Saturday, 10-11AM at the Volk Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Rd., Teaneck. A service will begin at 11AM. Interment to follow at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.
