Rita E. “Betty” Booth 83 years, of Brockton died Wednesday June 24, 2009 at the Good Samaritan Medical Center after a period of failing health. Betty was born in Brockton a daughter of the late Mary F. (Kane) and John J. Booth, Sr. (ret. BFD) and remained a lifelong resident of the city. Betty was a 1943 graduate of St. Patrick High School and had worked in the Brockton shoe industry. She had worked in the offices of Charles Eaton Shoe and Wind Sole. For several years Betty participated at St. Joseph Manor Day Program. For the past two years she had been a resident at Copley at Stoughton.
Church and home were Betty’s life. In her free time she enjoyed knitting, crocheting and jig saw puzzles. She was also an avid baker. Betty had been a longtime communicant of St. Margaret Church where she had been a member of the choir, ladies guild and sodality.
Betty was the sister of Mary V. McNeill and her husband John Joseph McNeill and Patricia A. Booth both of Brockton and the late John J. Booth. She was the aunt of Maureen Viscardi, Kathleen Young, Rosemary Bryant, Jo-Anne Pincolini, Jane Ellen Bowen and Michael J. McNeill and was great aunt to many.
Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Saturday at 8 am. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9 am. Burial in Calvary Cemetery. Visiting hours Friday 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers donations in Betty’s name may be made to BAARC, 1250 West Chestnut St., Brockton, MA 02301.
