Kennebunk, Maine- Longin B. Gierczak, 90, of 1 Penny Lane, formerly of 8 Fisher Road, Worcester, died Tuesday, July 22, in Atria Center, Kennebunk.
His wife, Sophie H. (Swiatek) Gierczak, died in 1975. He leaves two sons, Thomas F. Gierczak of Valley, Alabama, and John M. Gierczak of West Kennebunk, Maine; a sister, Jessie E. Spiewak of Worcester; a granddaughter; nephews and nieces. Two brothers, Walter E. Gierczak and Albert S. Gierczak predeceased him. A sister, Victoria J. Stachelek also predeceased him. He was born in Worcester, son of Jan and Wiktoria (Mozdzen) Gierczak and lived in Worcester most of his life before moving here.
Mr. Gierczak worked in the maintenance department of State Mutual Life Insurance Company, retiring in 1977. Previously, he was a truck driver for the former Boyer and Pulda Barrel Company for 38 years.
He was a member of the St. Mary's Boosters Club and the Henryk Sienkiewicz Society of the Polish Roman Catholic Union of America, No. 713.
The funeral will be held Saturday, July 26, from Henry-Dirsa Funeral Home, 33 Ward Street (www.worcesterfuneral.com), Worcester, with a Mass at 9 a.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward Street, Worcester. Burial will be in St. Anthony's Cemetery, Shirley. Calling hours are from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 25, in the funeral home.
