Salem: Retired Salem Fire Dept. Lieut. Bruce F. Silva, age 58, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family. He was the husband of Carla A. (King) Silva, with whom he shared 29 years of marriage.
Born and raised in Salem, he was the son of Jackie E. (Desrochers) Silva of Salem and the late Francis J. Silva. A veteran of Viet Nam, he served with the Navy. Bruce first worked for GTE Sylvania at the Loring Avenue plant until he was able to join the Salem Fire Department in 1980. While serving as a firefighter, he continued his education at North Shore Community College, where he took his degree in Fire Science. He retired from the department in 2006.
Bruce was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Salem Council # 76, American Legion Post 0462 and the Franco American Club of Beverly. He was an avid fisherman, with a passion for boating and any type of fishing. Although he was devoted to his family, boating and fishing ran a very close second.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by 2 daughters, Jackie R. Silva and her husband Ray Silva and Lyn A. Silva all of Salem, 1 sister, Nina F. Gagnon and her husband Kenneth of Beverly, 2 aunts, Mary Mavroules of Peabody, Constance Desrochers of Largo, FL and an uncle, Jean Desrochers and his wife Rachel of Peabody. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews and his long time fishing and boating partner Fred Cwik of Beverly.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Sunday, June 28, 2009 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem. A private service is being planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan St., Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923.
